The balloon house is used by the station personnel for the daily weather balloon launch. The control room for the radio soundings is located inside the observatory building.

For scientific projects, the infrastructure of the balloon house can be used for atmospheric studies using the balloon launch system. Helium which is needed to inflate the balloons must be ordered several months in advance.

From within the hall, balloons up to a balloon weight of 3000 g (payload ca. 10 kg) can be launched. Larger plastic balloons can also be launched (success obtained with 25 kg payload balloon).
