Half of the "Vaskeriet" building is rented by AWI as a part of the research base.

Here you can find some warm storage space ("Diving storage, since it is mainly used by the diving teams") and two chemical laboratory rooms.

The storage is equipped with shelves, a deep-freezer (-80°C), two lockers for dangerous goods and gas bottles and some place for survival and diving suits.

A -24°C freezer operated by Kingsbay (>10 cubic meters) is available on a fair-use basis.

Chemical Laboratory

The chemical laboratory is equipped with a refrigerator, a laminar clean bench (type Babo), and a purified water plant (MilliQ system).

The water plant is open for usage to all scientific projects in Ny-Ålesund upon request.

Standard laboratory equipment (beakers, analysis glases) as well as some special tools like milligram scales (Sartorius 1mg, Kern, 2 mg precisions) and centrifuges complete the lab. Access to the glassware list

"Wet and Dry" Laboratory

It consists in a dry or wet laboratory(45 sq. meters).

There are cupboards for the equipment storage. The tables surfaces represent ca. 15 square meters. Power : 220V/50 Hz.

There is also 2 sinks with fresh water supply.

It is advisable to request the space several months in advance.
