Communication & location equipment inventory access.

AWIPEV takes care of field communication and teams geographical locations. Access to the field package equipment list.

For each expedition out of Ny-Ålesund, a field notice must be filled, and items taken for safety and communication clearly mentioned.

• In the Kongsfjord, 5W ICOM Radios (IC M1 EURO V) are used on marine channel and also on specific channel strictly devoted to AWIPEV Base. These radios can reach the four units of 25W station radios (ICOM ICM45 EURO ), located in the blue house, in Rabot Station, and also in Corbel Station.
• Out of the fjord, or during terrestrial expeditions in summer time, Iridium phones are used, with a strict procedure to call in case of emergency.
• Combined with flexible solar cells, this communication equipment works in autonomy.
• Distress beacon is also borrowed for each expedition going out of the fjord.
• Location : GPS type MLR 24 XC or Etrex GPS are commonly used, softwares are installed on office PC so that to load/unload coordinates from the field. GPS devoted to scooter tracks locations are used (Garmin GPS Map 76c).

All these equipment have their own waterproof bags.
