GOVERNOR OF SVALBARD


A proposal must be submitted to the Governor of Svalbard, no field activity planned into delimited areas can start before his official permission.

AWIPEV suggests to use these headlines as a guide to draft your proposal (see below). You can send your draft proposal to AWIPEV for comments.


This proposal has to be send to this address:

or by e-mail to the Environmental Advicer of the Governor, who is in charge of Research applications

Proposed headlines

  1. name, adress, tel, fax, @ of the leader
  2. Short description of the scientific theme
  3. Study area (you must know before the Svalbard's protected areas)
  4. Operations on the field
  • field operator : IPEV, AWI or laboratory itself.
  • dates of your presence in Svalbard
  • dates of the beginning/end of the field operations
  • N participants
  • logistics support and collaborations
  • safety support (distress beacon, radio HF, rifles.) (with or not staff or/and equipment support from AWIPEV)

Biological programme requesting vertebrate animals interventions :

An additional procedure must be done towards Forsoksdyrutvalget (Norvegian Animal Authority).
